The resistance and the capacity are usually printed on the cartridge body or stamped into its base: that marking identifies the part far more reliably than the name of the device it came out of.
A sealed pod with nothing to assemble
The Novo 5 pod is a self-contained cartridge. The mesh coil is built in, the pod fills through a port under the mouthpiece cap, and when the flavour goes, the whole thing is replaced. Nothing to press in, nothing to prime separately, nothing to lose in a bag.
That simplicity is the reason the Novo 5 works as a first refillable. A device with a nine hundred milliamp-hour cell and no coil to fit is about as close as a refillable gets to the convenience of a disposable.
Three pods, and the two that came later
The 0.7 ohm at two millilitres is the original and the pod your kit came with. A straightforward mouth-to-lung draw, and the one to reorder if the device is doing what you want.
SMOK later extended the range with two three-millilitre pods. The 0.6 ohm is a slightly looser mouth-to-lung with a little more warmth. The dual mesh pod runs a 0.4 ohm and an 0.8 ohm element together and gives a properly restricted lung draw, a different device experience from the same body.
The extra millilitre on the two newer pods changes the arithmetic on its own.
Two devices, and probably a third
A short list with an unusually useful entry in it, covered in the next section. It is also why a Novo 5 bought in Kenya today does not become an orphan when the next model arrives.
SMOK say these pods run the Novo 6, in their own words
On their own Novo 6 kit page, SMOK write that the expanded Novo 5 pod series is compatible with the Novo 6 as well as the Novo 5. That is the manufacturer’s own wording, and it is unusual enough in this catalogue to be worth quoting.
It also makes the Novo platform a better long-term proposition than it looks. Buying a Novo 5 today does not orphan you when the next generation arrives, because the consumable carries forward.
The Novo 6 Ultra is a softer claim. Compatibility is commonly claimed, but SMOK have published nothing either way, so treat it as likely rather than confirmed.
What does not carry over is backwards. The Novo 4 and Novo 4 Mini belong to an older arrangement entirely: a separate LP1 coil that presses into an empty pod, which is the two-part design SMOK have since moved away from. Nothing on this page will seat in one, and nothing from a Novo 4 will seat in a Novo 5.
A note on the two larger pods. Three millilitres is over the two-millilitre cap that UK and EU law puts on a refillable pod, so those versions are not sold in those markets at all. All three capacities work identically in the device.
The first pod out of the packet
Lift the mouthpiece cap, fill through the port, replace the cap and let the pod stand for five minutes. Nothing needs priming, but the wick inside still has to take up liquid before it meets any heat.
The Novo 5 has no wattage control, so there is nothing to set. Fit the pod, wait, and draw.
How long a pod runs for
SMOK publish no figure for these or for any pod they make. What you can say with confidence is that the two three-millilitre pods go further per pod than the two-millilitre one simply because they hold more, and that heavily sweetened liquids shorten any mesh pod noticeably.
Because the coil and the pod are one part, there is no way to extend the life of one by replacing the other. That is the trade this architecture makes in exchange for being simple.
