A pod this size normally gives you one power level and asks you to live with it. The Novo 5 gives you a screen, a wattage range from five watts to thirty, and a resistance readout, which means when a pod starts tasting flat, you can see whether the problem is the coil or the setting.
That matters more than it sounds. Most people who give up on refillables do so because something tasted wrong and there was no way to find out why. This device answers the question.
The pod is the coil, so buy pods, not coils.
There is no separate coil for this device. The mesh is sealed inside the pod, and when it goes, the pod goes with it. The replacement is the SMOK Novo 5 Replacement Pods pack, which arrives at 0.7 ohm, the same resistance the kit ships with.
SMOK reversed their own architecture here. The Novo 4 used an empty pod with a separate LP1 coil pushed into it; the Novo 5 does not. Nothing from a Novo 4 fits a Novo 5, and if you are upgrading from one, your existing coils and pods are for the older device.
The airflow ring, and why to start it closed
A ring at the base rotates to open and close the air inlet. Closed, this is a genuinely tight cigarette-like draw; fully open on a lower-resistance pod,d it loosens towards something restricted but airy.
Start it closed. A tight draw on a 0.7 ohm pod at modest wattage is the setting that behaves most like the thing most buyers are switching from, and opening it up later is a change you can hear immediately.
The liquid a 0.7 ohm pod wants
Mouth-to-lung at 0.7 ohm means a 50/50 liquid, a nicotine salt, not a sub-ohm freebase. Thick high-VG juice will starve a pod this tight, ht and the first sign will be a burnt draw you cannot undo.
For something you refill this often,n the 30ml bottles make more sense than the small ones. Nasty Burst Nic Salt 30ml and Nasty Salts 30ml are both on the Nicotine Salts shelf, at strengths meant for pods, not for mods. If you are new to refilling, buy one 10ml bottle before you commit to thirty.
What SMOK does not publish
SMOK name no chipset for this device, publish no charging input rating, and publish no charge time. Those three gaps are normal across their pod range,e and they are not a reason to avoid the device, but treat any figure quoted for them as unofficial, because SMO has not published one.
There is also a small disagreement about how the pod fills. Some listings call it top fill, and others describe a port under the mouthpiece cap. They may be describing the same opening from different angles; nobody at SMOK settles it.
Battery life on 900mAh
Nine hundred milliamp-hours at up to thirty watts is a day for most people and less than a day for heavy users, which anywhere in Kenya means the cable travels with you instead of living by a socket at home. This is a device you charge overnight, not one you charge weekly.
Charging is over USB Type-C. The device does not vape while charging, which is worth knowing if you were planning to keep it plugged in at a desk.
Against the pods on either side of it

The first fill, and how long a pod lasts
Fill it, refit it, and wait five minutes before drawing. The mesh inside a sealed pod needs to soak, and firing it dry the first time is what turns a new pod into a burnt one before you have tasted the liquid properly.
SMOK publishes no life figure for the Novo 5 pod. What most people find is that a pod outlasts several refills and then goes flat rather than harsh, and on a device with a resistance readout, a number drifting upwards is the earlier warning.
