What a vape mod actually changes
Two things separate this from every pod mod on the shelf. It has a 510 thread, so any tank ever made will screw onto it, and it takes two removable cells, so the power ceiling is set by chemistry and not by what fits inside a sealed body.
A hundred and seventy-seven watts is more than almost anybody uses, in Kenya or anywhere else. What the headroom actually buys is a device that never strains: at fifty watts, a mod rated for three times that runs cool, holds voltage steady as the cells drain, and delivers the same draw at the end of a tank as at the start.
It runs the same coils as the pod mods.
This is the detail that makes the Drag 5 an unusually easy step up. The Uforce-X tank takes VOOPOO PnP X Replacement Coils: the same coils that go into the VOOPOO Drag S3 Pod Mod Kit 3000mAh 60W, the VOOPOO Argus Pro 2 Pod Mod Kit 3000mAh 80W and the rest of the PnP X family.
So if you already own a VOOPOO pod mod, the coils already in your drawer work here. The tank itself is not shared; the VOOPOO Uforce-X Tank 5.5ml is a 510-threaded glass tank and not a cartridge, but the part you replace most often is common to both.
Two cells, bought as a pair
Two 18650 cells, bought and used as a matched pair: same brand, same model, same age, charged and discharged together. Mixing cells in a dual-battery mod is the one genuine safety error available on this shelf, and it is entirely avoidable.
The cells are on the battery pages on the Accessories shelf. The Drag 5 will charge them in place at five volts and three amps, which is the quickest onboard charging here, but a separate two-bay charger is still worth owning, because it treats each cell on its own terms and lets you run one pair while the other charges.
Temperature control, and whether you will use it
Four temperature-control modes ship on this device: nickel, titanium and two stainless grades. They limit the coil temperature instead of the power, which makes a dry hit far less likely: provided the wire type is set correctly, which is where most people come unstuck.
In practice, temperature control needs a coil built from the right wire, and the PnP X mesh coils that come with this kit are not those. Treat it as a capability the chip has and not a feature the kit delivers, unless you are building your own.
What goes in a 5.5ml tank at seventy watts
A 70/30 freebase at three milligrams, and at these wattages, that is not a preference. Three milligrams is the sub-ohm standard and six the practical ceiling; a nicotine salt at thirty or fifty milligrams through a 0.15 ohm mesh coil at seventy watts is a mistake with consequences, not a matter of taste.

The battery door and the cells inside it
The door is magnetic and leather-clad and comes away entirely, which is a better arrangement than the hinged flap on the previous generation. There is a cell health check in the menu, and each battery reads separately on the screen, so an ageing cell announces itself before it becomes a problem.
That per-cell readout is genuinely useful on a dual-battery device and is the feature most worth learning to read.
Where it sits, and what came after
VOOPOO have since released a Drag 6, and it abandoned removable cells for a built-in pack. That makes the Drag 5 the last dual-18650 flagship in the Drag line, which matters in a market where people already own cells and chargers.
Against the VAPORESSO Armour Max Mod Kit 220W Dual Battery, it is the lighter and less powerful of the two, on a coil platform four other devices here already share instead of one of its own.
Building it up on day one
Three things before the first puff. Insert a matched pair of cells the right way round, press the coil into the tank base and wet the cotton through the side ports, then fill the tank and leave it standing for five minutes.
Start at the bottom of the coil’s range. The supplied 0.15 ohm is a high-wattage coil, and firing it at a hundred and fifty watts on a dry-ish wick is the fastest way to ruin one. The hundred-millilitre coil-life figure VOOPOO publishes for the platform assumes exactly that treatment.
