One decision made for you, one left to you.
The Sonder Q2 makes one decision for you and leaves you the other. It reads whichever cartridge you fit and sets the power itself, so there is no wattage to learn, but the airflow slider stays under your thumb, which is the control that actually changes how a vape feels.
That split is unusual, and it is the reason to buy this one. Most devices give you both controls or neither. This gives you the one that matters on a pod and takes away the one that mostly causes trouble.
One cartridge, four resistances, four different devices
The consumable is the Geekvape Q Cartridge, with the coil sealed inside it. GeekVape makes it in four resistances, and each one turns the Sonder Q2 into a different draw: the 1.2 and 0.8 ohm cartridges are tight and cigarette-like, the 0.6 ohm opens up, and the 0.4 ohm goes as loose as this device gets.
Because the device sets its own power to match, changing character is a matter of changing the cartridge and nothing else. No settings to remember, no note on your phone about which number went with which pod.
It does not take Geekvape Z coils.
Worth saying plainly, because the mistake is an easy one to make. Geekvape Z coils are sub-ohm coils for the Zeus tank family,y and they have nothing to do with this device: different thread, different platform, different job.
The Sonder Q2 takes Q Cartridges and only Q Cartridges. Those same cartridges also run in the original Sonder Q and the Wenax Q, so if you already own one of those, your existing stock carries over.
Liquid, and how the cartridge changes the answer
Fit the 0.8 or the 1.2 ohm cartridge, and you have a tight mouth-to-lung device, which wants a 50/50 nicotine salt and nothing thicker. Drop to 0.6 or 0.,4 and the coil pulls far more liquid per puff, so the same bottle delivers noticeably more nicotine than it did. Twenty milligrams suits the tight cartridges; ten is the number to move to as the resistance comes down.
The whole Nicotine Salts shelf suits the tighter cartridges. Ultimate Salts 30ml and ELFLIQ Salts Ice King 30ml are both 30ml bottles, which is the sensible size once you know a device suits you.
What Geekvape publish, and what they leave out
Geekvape publish the battery, the power ceiling, the charging rate, the cartridge capacities in both market versions, the four resistances and, unusually, the wattage band each resistance is built for. That last is a fuller specification than most brands on this shelf offer.
They publish no weight, no charge time, and no ingress rating, which matters on a device sold partly on how much punishment it will take. Dust and daily handling are what a vape in Kenya actually meets; drop tests are what brands like to quote. The height is also unsettled: GeekVape says 112mm, while 120.3mm circulates elsewhere; the width is not in dispute.
The middle ground, deliberately
It is the middle ground. More battery and more adjustment than the UWELL Caliburn A3 Pod Kit 520mAh MTL, less to think about than the UWELL Caliburn G5 Koko Pod Kit 1600mAh 35W, and unlike the SMOK Novo 5 Pod Kit 900mAh 30W, it deliberately refuses to give you a number to fiddle with.
Geekvape has since released a Sonder Q3 with a larger cell. It uses the same Q Cartridge, so nothing you buy for this device is stranded by that.
What is in the box
The kit arrives with a 0.8 ohm cartridge fitted, which is the tight mouth-to-lung end of the range and the right place for anyone arriving from disposables.
If you want a looser draw than the kit gives you out of the box, the 0.6 and 0.4 ohm cartridges are the ones to move to, and the airflow slider will take it further again.
The first five minutes with a new cartridge
Fill it, leave it upright for five minutes, then take two or three draws without the device firing before you vape it properly. A sealed cartridge with dry wadding is very likely to scorch on the first real puff, and once that has happened, the cartridge is finished.
Geekvape publishes no life expectancy for a Q Cartridge. Judge it by taste rather than by days: when the flavour flattens, replace it, and expect the lower-resistance cartridges to get there sooner because they use more liquid per puff.
