The resistance and the capacity are usually printed on the cartridge body or stamped into its base: that marking identifies the part far more reliably than the name of the device it came out of.
A tank that puts a box mod on the PnP X platform
Most 510 tanks come with their own coil family, which is how a mod owner ends up with three incompatible boxes of coils in a drawer. This one does the opposite: it threads onto any standard mod and runs the same VOOPOO PnP X Replacement Coils as VOOPOO’s current pod mods.
Five millilitres, side filling, and it arrives with a 0.15 ohm coil fitted and a 0.3 ohm spare, so it is ready to use at anywhere from thirty-two to eighty watts. The larger version is the standard one and the one we stock.
Threaded, where the cartridges are magnetic
This is the single most important thing on the page. VOOPOO sell two things called PnP X pods, and they attach in completely different ways. The cartridge is magnetic and drops into a pod mod. This tank has a 510 thread and screws onto a box mod.
The coils inside them are identical. The bases are not, and no adapter bridges the two. A Drag S3 owner who buys this tank has bought a part that cannot attach to their device.
What it turns a mod into
On this catalogue, the obvious pairing is the Drag 5, which is a 510 mod running two 18650 cells at up to a hundred and seventy-seven watts. Fitted with this tank, it becomes a PnP X device with a great deal more power behind the coil than any pod mod can offer.
The migration path off a dead coil platform
There is a second reason to own this tank, and it is the more interesting one. If your mod is fine but its coil family is winding down (a TPP tank on an Argus GT II, say), the mod does not need replacing. The tank does.
Unscrew the old one, screw this on, and the device moves from VOOPOO TPP Replacement Coils to a current platform: seven resistances and a published coil life, instead of four resistances and none. It keeps hardware in service that would otherwise be retired over a consumable, which is a strange reason to lose a working mod.
The VOOPOO UForce-X Tank 5.5ml does the same job with a slightly larger capacity and a slide-top fill, and is worth comparing before you choose.
A second version of this tank exists. VOOPOO make a mouth-to-lung Pod Tank on the identical 510 base, supplied with a 0.6 ohm coil fitted and a 0.3 ohm spare, and it takes a removable 510 drip tip. It is the only way to get a genuinely tight draw out of a box mod on this platform.
Fitting a coil and filling
Coils press in rather than screwing, as they do everywhere on this platform. Wet the cotton, press the coil into the tank base, screw the base back on, and fill through the side port.
Stand for ten minutes before the first draw, and start at forty watts on the supplied 0.15 ohm coil rather than the eighty it is rated for. Working up over the first tank is what gets a coil to its hundred-millilitre rating.
Coil life here is the platform figure
The hundred-millilitre rating VOOPOO gives these coils holds in this tank exactly as it does in a cartridge, because it is a property of the coil rather than of what surrounds it. Twenty refills of five millilitres is the arithmetic.
The tank itself has no published lifespan. Glass and stainless steel outlast plastic comfortably, and the seals are the part that will eventually need attention.
What a mod at eighty watts wants in it
A 70/30 freebase at three milligrams, which sits at the top of the fifty to seventy per cent band, VOOPOO print on the sub-ohm PnP X coils. The pre-mixed Ultimate Juice 120ml bottles and the Doozy 100ml shortfills are the right shelf for a tank this size.
Six milligrams is the sensible ceiling. On a mod that can push a 0.15 ohm coil properly, anything stronger stops being enjoyable within a few puffs.
