What a removable cell actually changes
A swappable cell changes the arithmetic of owning a vape. Run one flat, and you fit another, which, on a long day away from a socket, is the difference between vaping and not. It also means the device outlives its battery instead of dying with it.
What that asks of you is a shopping list. The X3 ships without a cell, and the point of a spare is lost unless you also have somewhere to charge it, which is what a separate charger buys you: one cell in the device, one on the bench.
The cell, and where to charge it
One 18650 or one 21700 cell, and the device accepts either; a sleeve adapts the larger bay down. The 21700 is the bigger cell and gives more running time between swaps; the 18650 is the more common format in Kenya and the one you are more likely to already own. Both sit on the battery pages on the Accessories shelf.
A separate charger is worth buying at the same time. VOOPOO rate the device at five volts and two amps and put a full charge at two to three hours, so charging in place works, but with only one bay, a spare cell has nowhere to go while you are using the other.
The touchscreen and the lock that comes with it
A 1.66-inch touchscreen is the largest display in the collection outside the Caliburn G4 Pro, and it is a touchscreen, not a menu you button through. Three themes ship with it.
The device also unlocks on skin contact, and on this model that sensor cannot be turned off, unlike its sibling, the VOOPOO Drag S3 Pod Mod Kit 3000mAh 60W, where it can. On a device with a touchscreen, this is worth thinking about before buying.
The S and the X, and what three generations show
Across three generations, the pattern holds exactly: the S model has a sealed internal battery and the X model takes a removable cell, with the X also carrying the higher wattage. Drag S and Drag X, S2 and X2, S3 and X3.
VOOPOO have never published what the letters stand for, so the pattern is a reliable guide to what you are buying and not a rule anyone has written down. If a future Drag arrives with an X in the name, expect a battery bay.
Filling it, and the one thing not to do
This kit is set up for direct lung, and eighty watts on a 0.15 or 0.2 ohm coil narrows the choice to one thing: freebase at 70/30 and three milligrams. Doozy Vape Co 100ml and Ultimate Puff 120ml on the E-Liquids shelf are both built for coils like these.
The MTL cartridge with a higher-resistance coil turns it into a salt device instead. What must not happen is a high-strength salt meeting the wattages this thing is capable of.
What is unpublished or disputed
VOOPOO give the output voltage as 3.2 to 4.2 volts on the product page and 3.2 to 4.35 in their own comparison guide. The chipset appears on their storefront and not on the product page. Pass-through is unstated. One VOOPOO blog post gives the screen as 1.08 inches, which contradicts their own product page and should be ignored.
The weight is quoted as 130 grams on VOOPOO’s storefront, though no weight appears in their main documentation for this device. Take it as approximate.
The bridge to the vape mods
It is the bridge between the pod mods and the vape mods, the coils and cartridges of a pod mod, and the battery arrangement of a mod. Everything you buy for it also runs in the VOOPOO Drag 5 Mod Kit 177W Dual 18650, and the cells do too.

Before the first draw
Fit the cell the right way round; the tray is marked, then prime the coil: a few drops on the exposed cotton, fill the cartridge, refit, and wait five minutes. On a device with no internal battery to fall back on, a scorched first coil is a wasted trip to the shop.
